Nine anonymous accounts made more than 80 bets on the Iran strikes and won 98% of them, clearing about $2.4 million before our planes were even in the air.
Not one of those accounts had existed a week earlier.
Nobody confessed and nothing leaked. They got caught because of something they left behind without ever realizing they'd left it, sitting in plain sight the entire time.
That same thing is in the regular market right now, in names you already own.
The firm that traced those accounts did it on the public blockchain, reading the record of the trades themselves.
The timing, the sizing, the pattern of brand new wallets all moving the same direction at the same hour. Nobody on the inside talked. The trail was simply there to be read, and somebody finally read it.
There's another story going around today, sourced to the Iranian side, alleging that people close to the negotiations made a fortune trading the volatility. Take it for exactly what it's worth. I have no idea whether it's true and neither do you.
But I've stopped reacting to these stories anyway, and not because I don't care. There's a new one every week, and by the time it's a headline the money has already been made.
Look at what we've watched just lately. A soldier at Fort Bragg got arrested for allegedly clearing over $400,000 wagering on a military operation using classified intel. Members of Congress keep trading the same companies they get briefed about, while a bill to stop them has been stuck since January with 86% of the country behind it.
Different stories, different players, and the same thing sitting underneath every one of them. Somebody knew first, somebody moved, and the move showed up before the news did.
Here's the part almost nobody stops to think about.
Not one of those was cracked by a confession. Nobody leaked, nobody got caught bragging in a bar. Every single one came apart because outside researchers went back and read the public record of the trades after the fact, which means the trail was sitting out in the open the whole time.
They just read it late.
That's what's had me obsessed for a long while now. If a trail is readable after the fact, then it was readable while it was happening, and the only real question is whether you know what you're looking at when it goes past you.
Tonight I'm going to answer that question in front of you.
Here's what you'll actually see. The signals themselves, live on the screen, with real examples instead of theory. What it looks like the moment informed money starts moving, and why it tends to leave a mark before the story ever breaks.
Then I'll walk you through how to read the same thing I read, so you stop finding out on Thursday what somebody else knew on Monday.
We'll also get into what turned up when I went hunting for the people I think are doing the most of this, and where their trades keep surfacing. That part genuinely surprised me, and I don't think you'll see it coming.
Tonight, 7pm ET. Live, one time. It's free, and there's a Q&A at the end where you can ask me whatever you want.
If you're tired of being the last one to know, this is where that changes. Click here to register now.
I'll see you tonight.
Your Only Option,
Mark Sebastian
P.S. The people who made that 98% run didn't have better instincts than you. They had a head start, and a head start always leaves a mark on the tape. Tonight at 7pm ET I'll show you what that mark looks like and how to spot the next one while there's still time to do something about it. Register here.
