Hi Traders,
So I think you all know about our homelessness for the last three and a half years.
Yes, you read that correctly.
We sold our home in the suburbs of Chicago right after our son left for college.
My plan had always been to move to Naples, FL.
We had spent the last ten years visiting places all over the panhandle and west coast of Florida looking for our favorite spot.
My husband, on the other hand, wanted to investigate places in Texas (where his family lives) and Arkansas (where my parents live).
Which I was open to. I love both places.
We actually bought a house in Dallas with plans to rehab it.
When we couldn't agree on where the driveway should go, we sold it. We usually agree on these kinds of things.
I should have known we are not cut out for a complete rehab. Putting together a new home is easy peasy. We had done it a couple of times before.
After that debacle, we just couldn't find the "right" place.
We searched Austin, Dripping Springs, Fayetteville and Bentonville, visiting each place several times. We considered South Carolina and Tennessee but never really got there.
I had finally convinced him Naples is our spot.
It was a long time coming, and it did give us the freedom to travel more.
We visited Iceland, Portugal, Ireland, Buenos Aires and Mexico. We saw SpaceX take off, skied in Utah, and rafted the Guadalupe River outside Austin.
We attended a phenomenal music festival at Bass Canyon, WA, and went to New Orleans several times on those long drives.
I lost count of the number of drives between Florida, Texas, Arkansas and Illinois.
On top of all that, we were both able to be there for our parents the few times they needed us for an extended period.
Overall, quite the experience. Would I recommend it? Hell no. And I am not going anywhere anytime soon!
