For every Market Correction, there’s someone padding their pockets.
Let’s walk through the last seven market corrections together.
I’ll show you:
- What caused the dip
- How much $$$ was lost, and
- Most importantly: How in our most recent 2025 Tariff Correction… we can actually track where the money is moving NEXT
Starting with 2008….
U.S. Stock Market Corrections (Oldest to Most Recent)
- 2008-2009 Financial Crisis: $14 Trillion Lost
The crisis began with the collapse of the housing market and subprime mortgage meltdown, leading to the failure of major financial institutions like Lehman Brothers. The S&P 500 plummeted approximately 57% from October 2007 to March 2009, marking the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Beyond the $8 trillion in stock market value erased, an additional $6 trillion was lost in housing wealth, bringing total household wealth reduction to around $14 trillion. - 2015-2016 Correction: $2.3 Trillion Lost
Between August 2015 and February 2016, markets declined approximately 13.3%. This correction was primarily triggered by concerns about China’s economic slowdown, plunging oil prices, and uncertainty about the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. The correction erased about $2.3 trillion in market capitalization. - Early 2018 Correction: $3.7 Trillion Lost
A brief but significant correction occurred in February 2018, with markets dropping about 10% in just two weeks. This sharp decline followed a period of unusual market calm and was sparked by inflation fears and concerns about rising interest rates. Approximately $3.7 trillion in market value disappeared during this rapid selloff. - Q4 2018 Correction: $4.5 Trillion Lost
From September to December 2018, the market dropped around 19.8%, narrowly avoiding bear market territory. This decline was driven by U.S.-China trade tensions, fears of excessive Fed tightening, and global growth concerns. The correction wiped out roughly $4.5 trillion in market value. - COVID-19 Crash (2020): $10 Trillion Lost
The pandemic-induced market crash saw the S&P 500 plunge about 34% in just over a month (February-March 2020), as worldwide lockdowns brought economic activity to a halt. This represented the fastest bear market in history, erasing approximately $10 trillion in market value before an equally remarkable recovery began. - Early 2022 Correction: $9.3 Trillion Lost
From January to June 2022, the S&P 500 declined approximately 19.9% as markets reacted to the highest inflation in 40 years, aggressive Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, and concerns about economic growth. This correction erased about $9.3 trillion in market capitalization, particularly impacting high-growth technology stocks.
Which brings us to our current moment…
2025 Tariff Correction: $5.28 Trillion Lost
The S&P is down over 10% so far in 2025 YTD thanks to new international trade tariffs that have caused investors to worry about companies making less money as their margins are squeezed.
In the last week, I’ve gotten emails from several companies I’ve bought products from before saying this exact thing….
“Dear American friend,
With the recent application of a total of 31% tariffs on Swiss watch imports into your country – 10% has already been applied, the balance of 21% is planned to be effective from Wednesday 9th April – the ultimate price you pay for your Christopher Ward watch will increase.
As a relatively small, independent watch brand we can’t afford to absorb this increase ourselves and, therefore, have no alternative but to pass the tariff costs onto our American customers.”
And my favorite as a lifelong marketer – a company who actually turned the Tariff issue into a promotional vehicle, where customers can claim 44% off with the code: TARIFF44 (you can’t make this stuff up)….
“Hey MeUndies Fam,
Jon here, the guy who thought starting an underwear company would be…fun. And it has been — mostly.
But then came 2025, and an extra 44% tariff on goods from Sri Lanka — where a lot of your favorite MeUndies are made. That’s not just a speed bump. That’s a monster truck rally through our margins…But now, with these new tariffs? It hurts. Big time. So, we’re flipping the narrative. We’re turning that 44% into a win — for you.
Enter code TARIFF44 at checkout to get 44% off sitewide, right now.”
You can’t help but laugh, else you might cry.
However, the $5.28 trillion lost isn’t the most important number to know –
$100 Billion is.
Out of the total $5.28 trillion that disappeared from the stock market, about $100 billion wasn’t actually “lost” money.
Instead, this $100 billion went to Big Banks and hedge funds that made profits by “shorting” the market—which means they bet that stock prices would go down.
Think of it like this: If you know a snowstorm is coming, you might sell your ice cream stand today and buy it back cheaper after the storm, keeping the difference as profit. That’s basically what these big financial companies do with stocks. They do this ALL THE TIME.
That money can’t just sit in their accounts as profits, though.
They have to put it back to work.
And starting next week, I expect that $100 billion to flow back into the market as these banks and hedge funds take their profits and use the money to buy stocks and options again.
In fact, there are 7 Key “Revival” Stocks I have my eye on where their $100 Billion is most likely to go first.
When this money moves, there are big profits to be made as these 7 Revival Stocks get a serious cash boost.
Mark plans to ride the wave along with Big Money, just like he has for years as part of his paid options service: Delta Strike.
Just until Monday, he’s offering an extremely insane (IMO) deal where you can trade for 1 week with him for less than $5 a day.
He says this is “too important” for anyone to miss, so we slashed the price.
If you’re still reading this far, thank you.
And as a free bonus, I’m going to GIVE YOU the 7 Revival Stocks Mark’s watching like a hawk. The 7 places he believes the $100 Billion will go first.
They are:
- IWM
- JPM
- SMH
- MSFT
- AMZN
- PG
- META
