This morning Andrew messaged me about the VIX at 4:39AM.
I’ll share the message in just a second. First – you need some context.
- No, Andrew does not normally message me before the sun is up
- If you’ve been reading any of his Insider’s Edge newsletters the last week or so (I link three below), you’ll know he has been as close as I’ve ever seen to pulling out his perfectly coiffed, sea-salted hair over VIX’s irrational behavior
Normally…
SPY up, VIX down
VIX up, SPY down.
Right now = SPY up, VIX holding a completely irrationally high number
Basically, VIX won’t drop.
Even though the market is near all time highs and some of the wide, geopolitical factors that cause it to spike have quieted… VIX is STILL TOO HIGH.
Andrew has been moaning about it for days.
Moan 2 – where he called his VIX short “Free Money” – sorry, AG
The VIX should be 12 or 13.
It always has been.
This is supposed to be what it DOES.
In those articles above, Andrew explains why he thinks this is happening, but it doesn’t change the fact that as of yesterday, he was still holding 2 VIX puts that were profitable, yes… but they weren’t the 10X they should have been if VIX dropped to 12 or 13.
So he’s really been WAITING and WATCHING the VIX nonstop.
Instead of dropping, the VIX is sitting on a floor of about 16.
Yesterday, Andrew finally got fed up enough to sell his VIX puts for +75% and +30% profit.
He was done waiting…
And still locked in 2 wins.
Today… VIX is back up to 17.
So good on you, Andrew. A great exit right before a VIX pop this morning that surely would have wiped out some of those gains.
It was the least Andrew deserved after wrestling with his own demons for the last two weeks.
What I didn’t expect… was WHY he sold yesterday.
I just assumed he was so fed up with the trade he wanted out.
Here’s his message to me at 4:39AM:
I want to highlight his last point.
“Every time I press I kill the performance. Best contra indicator there is.”
As traders, it’s absolutely priceless to know your weaknesses.
Not because you can get rid of them (most people can’t), but because they can actually be a strength.
If you know that most of the time when you press a trade you turn a winner into a loser… when you feel that emotion coming… sell.
If you know when you chase trades up 20 or 30 cents higher than the entry you actually wanted you lose more often… don’t chase.
It’s not about getting rid of your flaws.
It’s about using them to your advantage.
We’re all human – we’re going to have bad habits in trading… ESPECIALLY when you have money on the line and your emotions are involved.
Be smart about it.
Be like Andrew (not the hair-tearing-VIX-worrying part, just the “I know myself and when to sell” part that got him more money today than he had yesterday).
>> What are some of your flaws in trading? Take a minute to reply back to this email and share! I’ll share the submissions next week so that you can clearly see once and for all: No one is perfect, and you’re not alone.
I’m also going to put all the names of those who submit a response into a hat (ok, not actually a hat (who has the time?), but a random online generator)…
And one of you will win a free Ripzone membership to trade live daily with Andrew.
It’s over $3,999 Retail Value every year, and it’s the strategy where he locked in the VIX wins I showed you above. Free – just for sharing!

Talk Soon,
Hannah
P.S. If you haven’t watched this brand new research video on 0DTE options that Mark and I just released, what are you waiting for?
P.P.S. Happy 7/11: Go enjoy a slushie on me 😉
