The year was 1965 and Vegas was a different place.

So did Grandma Mary and Cousin Madie get to see Dino?  Did my dad find Phil Delgado?

Pop gets to Vegas with his new bride, my mom, and walks into the Stardust and asks a cocktail waitress, “Can you tell me where Phil Delgado is.”  The waitress says, “ He is right there.”

Like in a movie.  Gold pinky rings, gold watch, shark skin suit and the Pit Boss supremo.  My dad was just a JG in the Navy on leave and never saw a guy like Phil Delgado in his life.  He had to steel up just to say hello.  “Excuse me, Mr Delgado my Uncle Louis says  hello,”

Phil says ”Louis Vit?”

Dad, “Yes sir, here is his card.”  Phil looks at the card.  “What can I do for you young man?”

“My mom and her cousin would really like to see Dean Martin, is that possible it is sold out”

Phil says, “ You got a hotel? You stay here on me.  Go to the door of the theater and go right to the door man and give him my card and tell him what you want.”

Dad, “Thank you Mr Delgado.”  Still a bit shaken, my dad would tell me.

Phil, “My pleasure, tell Louis V we look forward to seeing him again.”

So my Dad, mom, his mom and her cousin, on my parents’ honeymoon,  went to the theater room in the Stardust and found the doorman and passed the line.  He gave the doorman Phil’s card.

“Yes sir, right this way.” and he ushered the 4 of them in.  The door man had two busboys get a table and place it right next to the stage.  My Grandma and Cousin Madie were in heaven for 90 min as Dino was at the height of his powers.  Pop was in disbelief but he had a great night with my mom 3 days into being married for the next 57 years.

My Grandma and her cousin talked about that night until the day they died.
