One Thing the Media Won’t Say About the Shutdown

BY ANDREW GIOVINAZZI

Yo Pit Crazies!

What do Presidents Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Trump all have in common?

A government shutdown.

While the mainstream media may want you to think a shutdown’s the end of the world, reality is it’s common. In fact, back when I was younger (and more handsome) market maker, I traded quite a few.

My recommendation?

Use my experience to turn a shutdown into an easy way to stack cash.

Here’s what you need to know: Shutdowns are good for investors. Just check out my chart below showing how the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (SPY) did over the last six shutdowns.

As you can see, the SPY was up at the end of every shutdown.

So why all the angst? Uncertainty.

We don’t know how long the shutdown will go on or the budgetary outcome.

That makes traders nervous. So, it’s getting priced now. That’s why the VIX is up.

Once the shutdown’s end is in sight and the outcome’s clear, VIX’ll fall while share prices rise. Maybe we’ll even see a deficit reduction, too. That’d be the best of both worlds.

Stack some cash for yourself and buy some calls on SPY.

This is America. Stocks go up.

To your trading success,

AG
