If you are looking for a description of the wild week of trading, look for my Vol Man review on Sundays. Things got so nutty on Friday it was hard to figure what happened. One stock held up very well and ran to a 2025 high. A hedge fund manager, Bill Ackman, declared his sizable 30 million share position in a stock I talked about at the beginning of the year.
The last time this guy liked a stock was Chipotle inc (Ticker: CMG) and the stock ran 10x from there. So when he discloses a position I want to take notice.
That is not too bad. The big red arrow is when he got in when the CMG ecoli outbreak was freaking investors out. Little did I know that a whole generation of kids was raised on CMG burrito bowls. Anyway the stock has done well.
The next stock is here and we jumped on it in the Trading Desk.
The stock is Uber Technologies Inc (Ticker: UBER)
What woke me up to UBER? Well I was out on Christmas Eve getting Chinese food in our small town. A whole pile of orders was up on the counter for the Uber Eats driver. In small town Maine, if they can reach there they can reach anywhere. Frank and I had a small short put spread position in UBER and I tried to acquire shares around $60.
Fat chance but I closed the put spreads.
The short term pop in UBER was solid Friday and I bought some strangles early in the day. My short term target is $80 and I have until March. I will write a few $60 puts as well a little farther out.
UBER turned around because they got a new CEO that was better and running the organization. As we have seen, leadership makes a big difference.
