National Security Investing

Hey Influence Traders,

I’m going to be blunt – we have allowed China and other countries to kick our butts for far too long when it comes to critical technology.

Again, it is not just about economics, it is about national security.

Twenty-five years ago we allowed technology that we developed around rare earth metals and neodymium magnets to leave the US and go to China.

Technology that we rely on for electronics and most military technologies.

China is now the rare earth and magnet leader.

Let me be clear – our national security relies on our biggest national security threat.

What is another area of national security?

Energy and power.

The world is moving towards green energy.

What are the big techs – wind, solar, nuclear.

Wind is proving tough.

China has run with solar and is the world leader.

Commercially, we now lag far behind.

That leaves nuclear, particularly small modular reactors (SMRs).

SMRs generate about one-third the energy of a conventional nuclear reactor and can be prefabricated and shipped to the site.

They are cheaper, more versatile, and more easily installed in remote locations than their larger cousins.

Fortunately, some people in government are finally coming to the realization that we can no longer give up critical tech to adverse foreign powers.

The U.S. is now putting diplomatic pressure behind nuclear tech.

Not a single SMR has been sold or even built in the U.S.

However, the U.S. is pressuring partner countries to acquire the cutting-edge reactors being developed by U.S. firms.

Why?

At the recent climate conference, 20 countries committed to tripling global nuclear-energy output.

The U.S. believes it can be a leader in that technology boom.

I agree – we can lead.

We must lead.

It is a matter of national security.

We don’t want such tech to proliferate to the wrong groups.

China is currently building 22 of the 58 reactors under construction around the world.

Russia’s state-owned Rosatom is a major exporter of both reactors and nuclear fuel.

We need to shore up our supply chains.

One issue, the U.S. has yet to build an SMR.

NuScale Power (Ticker: SMR), an SMR leader, recently canceled an SMR project in Idaho when a group of utilities in the Mountain West couldn’t get enough members to commit.

But privately held Kairos Power has received construction approval for a demonstration project in Tennessee.

What SMR producers need is a pipeline of orders.

That is why the U.S. government is working with SMR developers and the government-run Export-Import Bank and the U.S. International Development Finance Corp. to win overseas orders that will bring down costs and build an order book.

The group has arranged up to $4 billion in financing for a NuScale plant in Romania.

In November, the U.S. signed an agreement to facilitate the sale of nuclear-energy technology and material to the Philippines.

Talks are also ongoing with Polish energy company Orlen, which wants to build SMRs designed by GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

U.S. officials also claim that discussions are advancing with Bulgaria, Ghana, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan.

With the full weight of the government behind this move, I’m jumping on the bandwagon.

In addition to SMR, I’m eyeing uranium fuel producer Cameco Corporation (Ticker: CCJ) and reactor builder BWX Technologies, Inc. (Ticker: BWXT), which can plan both the large and SMR game.

Now when I say I am eyeing them – I am looking to trade this sector with Mark. I’ve given these stocks to you to bring to our future live sessions and I’ll also follow up on them but if you want to trade stocks like these and analyze them further (again I’m glad to put you in the know but my money is going in the trade) we have the solution for you right here.

We are going to trade D.C.

Cutting Through the Noise for You,

Frank Gregory
