No, this isn’t about a new executive order by President Trump regarding flag burning. While I personally dislike the act, we live in a free country where it is protected speech.
I’d rather see the President energize the D.O.G.E. initiative and start cleaning house within the federal government. Since 2020, transfer payments to the states have skyrocketed, and Congress still hasn’t returned to pre-crisis spending levels.
This didn’t seem to faze Fed Chair Powell, who suggested he might lower interest rates. Stocks surged near all-time highs, and the VIX hit a low for 2025 — the best deal around, aside from Licia kicking off a new challenge this week.
The only number that matters is on its way—coming very soon.
NVDA (Ticker: NVDA) earnings are this week
The headline during my vacation: Jay Powell didn’t sound too worried about inflation. That sent the VIX tumbling and pushed stocks close to all-time highs.
What could take them even higher is surging demand for NVDA chips and the growing role of AI across nearly every industry:
Cars
Robots
Education
Drug development
You name it. I actually looked at a potential trade in Dell Technologies (Ticker: DELL) today after a student suggested it could benefit from the NVDA halo effect. The pricing edge in DELL’s upside calendar spreads is unusually strong—leaving some very cheap setups on the table.
If NVDA disappoints, the market may struggle to hit new highs—potentially for the rest of the year.
AI isn’t going anywhere, but without NVDA leading the charge, the broader market could lose momentum. On the flip side, a strong earnings report could crush the VIX, creating a solid trading opportunity.
Mark your calendar for the 27th—it could be a big one.
